Code of Conduct – Volunteers

All Club volunteers should follow the clubs codes of conduct at all times these are in place to ensure that we have guidelines and standards of behaviour in place which we expect from the people associated with the club

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete, coach, technical official and others involved in athletics and treat everyone equally.
  • Cooperate fully with others involved in the sport such as coaches, technical officials, team managers doctors, physiotherapists and representatives of the governing body in the interest of the athlete.
  • Promote the positive aspects of the sport (eg fair play ,teamwork)
  • Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
  • Not carry or consume alcohol or illegal substances.
  • Avoid swearing and abusive language and irresponsible behaviour including behaviour that is dangerous to yourself or others, acts of violence, bullying, harassment and physical and sexual abuse.
  • Challenge inappropriate behaviour and language by others.
  • Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club.
  • Hold the appropriate valid qualifications and insurance cover.
  • Avoid destructive behaviour and leave athletics venues as you find them.
  • Never condone rule violations, unacceptable behaviour or the use of prohibitive substances.
  • Encourage athletes to value their performances and not just results
  • All volunteers who work with young athletes must submit their names for a police check. Club volunteers will be asked to ensure they renew their licence and DBS every three years
  • Be responsible for the safety of athletes in your care. Ensure that any risk assessment or health and safety procedures are adhered to and the safety of the athlete or any other participant in athletics is put first.
  • Report any suspected misconduct by coach’s technical officials, or other people involved in athletics to the Club, Regional, National or UKA welfare officer as soon as possible.
  • Be willing to help volunteer at non athletics events such as club social events.
