Weekly update – 17th May 2024

There was plenty of action over the last week for members of the club, either competing, officiating or generally supporting, organising and doing the heavy lifting to ensure things happened how they should have happened.

We are another week on and there are still no results from the Triangular League, they are not forgotten here but just don’t appear anywhere as yet. So we will move on to some Bank Holiday track action at the Trafford AC Medal Meeting where Seb Palmer raced in the U13 800 finishing 2nd in his heat in 2.20.6.

There was some midweek action at Worcester for a Midlands Veterans League South fixture. Greg Asbury was 4th in 59.0 over 400 running down a couple of age groups in the M35 race, Gary Worrall placed 2nd in 4.55.0 over a mile for M35s, Jon Hart placed 1st in 4.47 in the M40 n/s mile race. Greg was 4th in the M35 long jump with a leap of 4.21. Gary Worrall then moved onto the Worcestershire County Championships on Saturday finishing 4th in his 800 race in 2.08.66. Also, at the Worcs Champs, Oliver Cresswell placed 2nd in the mens U17 1500 in 4.17.08.

The club hosted the Staffordshire County Championships and there were some fantastic performances throughout the day, a day that was a massive success thanks to the team behind the scenes who worked wonders to put the event on. Unfortunately, there are no results as yet so this one will have to be held over until they are available.

We will move on to Sunday where a small group raced around the streets of Shropshire in the Market Drayton 10k. Joe St Quinton placed 52nd in 40.44, Steve Newman was 81st in 42.17, Phil Evans claimed 1st prize in his age group and 98th overall in 43.11, Jo Lane was 223rd and 2nd F50 in 47.23 and Rob Carrington was 369th in 50.30.

To finish off the week there was more track action at Birmingham University on Wednesday where Ella Semple took part in the BMC Gold Standard 3000 finishing in 6thplace in 10.22.29. In the University of Birmingham Track & Field Series Theo Ulfig placed 1st in 2.26.40 over 800 and also ran over 1500 placing 4th in 3.58.84 for a double PB night, Seb Palmer was 7th over 800 in 2.27.39, Aisha Abdulla was 4th in the shot put competition with a throw of 11.34. Garry Palmer was 8th over 1500, after pulling out mid race at the weekend with a calf issue, finishing in 4.45.66 to take 1st M50, Oscar Davies was 2nd over 1500 in 4.08.95, just holding off Oliver Cresswell who finished in 4.9.62 a place behind in the same heat. Jack Stockton was also in the same race placing 7th in 4.15.39 and Louie Lambeth was 12th in 4.20.25. And over 5000 Tyler Hawley placed 2nd and 1st U20 in 16.18.71 and Lucie Tait-Harris was 12th and 1st F50 in 18.42.69.
