Weekly update – 21st June 2024

This is a tricky process at the best of times having to trawl through results of local races, but when local no longer becomes relevant as people go on holiday, this becomes a little more tricky. God bless strava for making this a little easier, albeit not much easier.

We’ll kick off with some Saturday evening action where Paul Marson took part in the Torbay Twilight 10k, coming home in 12th place, taking 3rd in his age group, stopping the clock in 37.22. Others followed the seaside theme competing in the Barmouth 10k with Dan Maskew taking 4th place in 33.54, he was actually placed 2nd on chip timing, Ben Pilsbury was 33rd in 38.45, Lee Pearson 39thin 39.23, James Wright was 51st in 40.32 with Holly Baddeley in 53rd in the same time. Simon Calrow was 85thin 44.32 and Darren Owen-Jones was 114th in 45.52.

Also in Wales, a group competed at Coed Y Brenin in the Solomon Trail Marathon Wales over the half marathon distance. There was some tarmac action at the Colshaw Hall 10k in Kuntford where Jon Hart ruined the celebrations of the ladies winner and GB international Calli Thackery, by breaking the tape stretched across the course for her. Jon crossed the line in a rapid 32.04 to take 1st in his age group and 6th overall. Thackery a second behind.

There was some track and field action at Nuneaton in the Midland Counties League Technical Match where Danny Malone took the brave decision to take part in the 3000 steeplechase finishing in 14th place in 12.03.74. Connor Blincoe clocked 54.16 over 400 for 4th place, Kyle Astley Weah was 2nd over 400 in 54.10, LaTaunya Samuels was 5th in 60.22 over 400, Freya Hooper finished 7th in 67.47 over 400, again over 400 Louise Webster was 4th in 72.76. There was more fun and games in the Mason Trophy at Stoke’s Northwood Stadium.
